What an office move with us looks like
Office movers in Austin get judged on one thing: whether your people can work the next morning. We schedule most commercial moves after hours or across a weekend, break down and rebuild the workstations, and label everything so it lands in the right room instead of a pile in the lobby. A two-person crew runs about $120 to $180 an hour. Bigger jobs get a larger crew and a written quote with a fixed scope before anyone lifts a chair.
Titan Moving & Delivery is a family business with a crew of seven, based at 4200 Burch Dr in Del Valle just off SH 130. Owner Lee Lucio walks the office before quoting a commercial job. He has been in the trade since the late 1990s.
How much does an office move cost
The honest ranges, because most sites will not give you one. A small office of five to ten people, mostly desks, chairs, monitors and a few filing cabinets, is often a single evening with two or three movers. Figure a few hundred to around $1,500 depending on the elevator and the parking. Twenty to forty seats with a server closet, a conference room, and a kitchen is a weekend job and lands in the low thousands.
What moves the number is the same short list every time.
- Elevator and dock access: a reserved freight elevator with a dock at both ends is fast. A back stairwell in a converted South Congress bungalow is not.
- Furniture type: sit-stand desks and modular cubicle systems take real time to break down and rebuild. Folding tables do not.
- Files and equipment: full lateral filing cabinets, copiers, safes and network racks are heavy, and heavy is slow.
- How much your team preps: an office where every employee has boxed their own desk moves in half the time.
Certificates of insurance for your building
Nearly every commercial building in Austin, and every managed office tower downtown, in the Domain, and along the 360 corridor, requires a certificate of insurance from any vendor working in the building. Property management will send you their requirements: general liability limits, workers compensation, and the exact wording for the certificate holder and additional insured lines.
Send that to us as soon as you have it and we will get the COI issued to both buildings, the one you are leaving and the one you are entering. Start early. Some management companies take a week to approve a vendor, and a crew that cannot get past the loading dock at 7pm on a Friday costs you the whole weekend.
You will also usually need to reserve the freight elevator at both ends, and building rules often restrict moves to after 6pm on weekdays or to Saturday and Sunday. We plan around those windows as a matter of course. It is why after-hours work is the default here, not an upcharge conversation.
Suburban offices are an easier animal. A tech suite or a clinic in Round Rock usually has a dock, a parking lot nobody is fighting you for, and no freight elevator to reserve, which is why those jobs often fit inside a single Friday evening instead of eating the whole weekend.
Desks, workstations, and IT equipment
Workstations are the actual work of an office move. We take desks apart, keep the hardware bagged and taped to the piece it belongs to, pad the surfaces, and rebuild them at the new address. Sit-stand frames are labeled by user so the same person gets the same desk back. Cubicle panels get stacked and strapped rather than stood loose in the truck.
Electronics get handled carefully but with a clear boundary. We move monitors, docks, printers, copiers and network gear, padded and boxed. We do not unplug and reconnect your network or your servers. Your IT person or your managed services provider should power down and disconnect before we arrive, and bring it back up after we set it in place. Movers who promise to handle your server migration are promising something outside their trade.
Files are the other place things go wrong. Filing cabinets should be emptied into labeled banker boxes, not moved full. A full four-drawer lateral is over 300 pounds and the drawers will slide open on a dolly. If your team does not have time to do that, our packing service can box the file room and the kitchen ahead of the move date.
Planning the timeline
Six to eight weeks out, confirm your new lease dates and ask both buildings for their move requirements in writing. Four weeks out, book the crew and get the COI started. Two weeks out, order any labels and boxes, and give every employee a firm date to box their own desk. The week of, reserve the elevators and confirm the parking.
Then pick the window. A Friday evening move with a Saturday setup gives you a full buffer day to find the thing that went in the wrong box. A move that starts Friday at 6pm and has to be done by Monday at 8am with no slack is the version that goes wrong.
Labeling is the cheapest insurance in a commercial move. Give every room at the new office a number, put that number on the floor plan, and put the same number on every box and every desk leg. A crew that can read the label puts the box in the right room the first time. A crew that cannot puts it in the lobby, and then you and your team spend Monday morning carrying boxes instead of working. We bring the labels if you do not have them.
What we handle and what stays with your team
Being clear about the boundary keeps the weekend on schedule.
- We handle: breaking down and rebuilding desks and workstations, padding and loading furniture, moving boxed files, monitors, printers, copiers and network gear, and setting every piece in its labeled room.
- Your team handles: emptying the filing cabinets, boxing personal desks, and powering down and reconnecting the servers and the network with your IT provider.
Anything on that first list that you would rather not touch, ask about it when we walk the space. It is easier to add scope in the quote than at 8pm on a Friday.
When you only need the labor
Some offices already have the truck, or a container sitting in the lot, or a landlord-provided move allowance that covers transport but not people. We do that job too. You supply the truck or container, we supply the crew, and we load or unload it by the hour. That is labor-only moving help and it is often the cheapest way to move a small office that is only going a few blocks.
The heavy and awkward pieces
Offices have items other crews would rather not touch. A gun safe in the principal’s office. A marble conference table top. A commercial refrigerator in the break room. A grand piano in a church or a school building. We take those pieces routinely, with the right straps, skids and dollies, and we say so up front when a piece needs more than two people rather than discovering it on the day.
Getting a quote for your office move
The first step is a walkthrough. Send the floor plan or the seat count, tell us the building rules at both ends, and Lee will come look at the real thing. You get a written scope and a written number before you commit, and there is no deposit to get a quote.
Titan Moving & Delivery is licensed and insured, with our own interstate authority if the office is leaving the state. Our numbers are public and you should check them, on us and on anyone else you shortlist. We hold 4.7 stars across 47 Google reviews with 44 of them at five stars.
