What a moving company in Buda costs and how long the day runs
Expect about $120 to $180 an hour for two movers and a truck. A two bedroom in Whispering Hollow is usually 4 to 6 hours. A four bedroom in Sunfield with a garage full of gear can run most of a day and is worth a third crew member rather than a longer clock. Movers in Buda, TX should hand you the math before the truck arrives, so we quote the rate, the crew size, and the expected hours in writing, with no deposit to get it.
The gap between closing and moving in is the Buda problem
Buda is still filling in. A lot of the people we move here are buying new construction, and new construction slips. The builder’s date moves, the funding is late, the lease on the old place is already up. Two dates that were supposed to be the same day are now nine days apart.
There are two honest ways to handle that, and neither one involves paying a crew to sit.
- One move, delayed: keep your things where they are and move once when the keys are actually in your hand. Cheapest, if your old place will let you stay.
- Load out, hold, load in: we load your household into a container or a storage unit you have rented, then come back and move it into the house when it is ready. You pay for the labor twice, not for a full move twice, and we quote both legs up front so you can see the real number before you decide.
Ask us which one your dates actually call for. If it is the first one, we will tell you that even though it books us less work.
Sunfield and Garlic Creek
The newer west side neighborhoods are two story, wide driveways, and easy truck access, which is good news for the clock. What eats the time is the garage. Buda garages fill fast with the stuff a first house collects: a chest freezer, a treadmill, a rack of weights, lawn equipment, a gun safe. Those are the pieces that separate crews. We move safes, appliances, hot tubs, marble tops, and pianos, and we price them at quote time instead of discovering them in your garage on move day and renegotiating.
Garlic Creek sits on rolling ground on the west side of I-35, so a handful of driveways there are genuinely steep. It is not a dealbreaker, but it changes where the truck sits and how long the carry is, and it is a question we ask before we quote.
Old Buda, near Main Street, is a completely different house
The older homes around downtown Buda are nothing like Sunfield. Narrow doorways, tight hallways, original wood floors, and in some cases pier and beam construction with a front porch step that a fridge does not care for. Street parking near Main is limited and the lots are small.
On those jobs we bring floor protection, we take doors off hinges when a doorway is short by an inch rather than muscling a dresser through it, and we plan the carry from wherever the truck can legally sit. Older house, older floors, more setup time, and that setup time is in the estimate.
FM 967 and getting a truck to your door
Our yard is on Burch Drive in Del Valle, roughly half an hour from Buda. Coming in off I-35, a lot of the west side is reached on FM 967, which is two lanes with soft shoulders in stretches and is not built for a loaded truck to make a three point turn on. If you are on a cul de sac or a narrow street off 967, tell us. It is the difference between backing in once and a long carry all day.
Red flags when you hire a mover
Growth attracts operators who are here for one season. Two checks protect you.
- Verify the licensing: every legitimate mover’s TxDMV registration, USDOT number, and interstate authority are public. Pull them up on the FMCSA and TxDMV databases, for us and for anyone else quoting you.
- Read what the estimate does not say: an hourly rate with no crew size, no stair count, and no travel line is not a quote, it is a hook.
We are family owned, started in 2020, and Lee Lucio learned this work in the late 1990s alongside his father. Seven people on the crew. 4.7 stars across 47 Google reviews, 44 of them five star.
Cheaper options that are actually cheaper
If you have already rented a truck or a container, you do not need to hire ours. Our labor only crew loads and unloads what you drive, which is the lowest cost way to get licensed movers on the job. If you are moving a full house from a second floor into a second floor, the truck and crew from our local moving service usually finishes in less time than the do it yourself version, and the rental, the fuel, and the missed workday close most of the gap on their own.
The other lever is packing. Boxes are the single biggest variable in an hourly move. If you will not be boxed and taped when we knock, hire the packing out. A crew waiting on you is the most expensive hour of the day.
The cheapest day to book
Midweek, mid month. Tuesday through Thursday between the 5th and the 20th is the open part of our calendar. Month end and Saturdays are when every closing and every lease end in Hays County lands at once. Spring and summer are our busiest stretch, so if you are closing in May or June, get on the schedule as soon as your date is real.
Getting a quote
Send the address, the bed count, the stories, the date, and anything heavy or awkward. If your closing date is soft, say that too, because it changes what we recommend. Lee reads it, asks a couple of real questions, and sends back a written quote with the hourly rate, the crew, the hours, and the drive time on it. What is on that page is what you pay.
