What movers in San Marcos charge
A two person crew and truck runs about $120 to $180 an hour, and most San Marcos jobs land in the middle of that. A one bedroom apartment near campus is usually 3 to 4 hours. August in San Marcos is a different job than August anywhere else
Very few Central Texas cities turn over the way this one does. Leases around the university roll on the same handful of days in late July and August, so the whole city is loading and unloading at once. Elevators are booked, loading zones are taken, and the apartment office has a move-in window it will hold you to.
That changes how we schedule. For campus area moves in peak weeks we book earlier start times, bring an extra hand so the walk from the truck to the door is not the bottleneck, and confirm the building’s loading rules with you the week before. If your complex only allows a 30 minute stop at the door, we plan a staging run instead of parking and hoping.
Student apartments and the walk from the truck
Most of the rentals in the university area are second and third floor units with exterior stairs and no elevator. Two things drive the clock there, and neither one is the size of your furniture.
- The walk: if the closest legal truck spot is 200 feet from your stairwell, every trip costs you time. We measure that walk before we quote it.
- Doorways and turns: sleeper sofas, queen box springs, and desks routinely will not clear a tight stairwell landing. We disassemble on site rather than force it and gouge a wall you will pay for at move out.
Because these are hourly jobs, the fastest way to spend less is to have everything in boxes and taped shut when we arrive. If that is not going to happen, our packing services crew can box a one bedroom in an afternoon, which is usually cheaper than paying a moving crew to stand around while you hunt for tape.
Blanco Vista, Kissing Tree, and Willow Creek are the opposite problem
Out in the newer neighborhoods the truck parks in your driveway and nobody is fighting you for it. The work moves inside. Blanco Vista and Willow Creek homes are mostly two story with a turn at the top of the stairs, and the primary bedroom furniture is the part that hangs the day up. Kissing Tree, being an active adult community, adds gate access and its own rules about contractor hours, so we get the gate code or the guest list handled before the truck rolls rather than sitting at the callbox.
Bigger house also means the heavy oddball items show up: a gun safe in the closet, a treadmill upstairs, a marble top dining table, an upright piano. Those are pieces plenty of crews decline. We move them, and we tell you at quote time what they add.
What changes your price here
Honest answer: hours, stairs, and how ready you are. Volume matters less than people think. The line items that actually move the number are the flight of stairs at an apartment, the distance from the truck to the door, whether beds and tables need to come apart, and whether the boxes are packed. Drive time from our Del Valle base down I-35 is part of the quote too, and we state it up front instead of surprising you with a fuel or travel line at the end.
Red flags when you are hiring anyone in this market
Summer in a college town brings out people who own a truck and a Facebook page, and every August somebody gets burned. Check three things on any mover, including us.
- Licensing you can verify: we are registered with the TxDMV and hold our own interstate authority, all of it public record. Look us up on the FMCSA and TxDMV sites before you pay a deposit to anyone.
- A written quote, not a phone number and a vibe: if nobody will put the rate, the crew size, and the estimated hours in writing, that is your answer.
A large cash deposit before the truck ever shows up is the other one to watch. We do not take one.
The cheapest day to move in San Marcos
Midweek, mid month, outside of the August lease crush. Tuesday through Thursday in the middle of a month is the least crowded time to get a crew, and it is the easiest time to get the apartment elevator or the loading zone you want. The last weekend of the month and the first week of August are the hardest. If your dates are flexible by even a few days, ask us what is open before you sign a lease end date.
If you already rented a truck or a container
Plenty of San Marcos moves are half do it yourself. Somebody has a rental truck or a container sitting in the driveway and just needs the heavy part handled.
